I would like to take a moment to commend the Florida Legislature for its excellent weapon's laws. My current home state, Illinois, has very clearly enumerated list dangerous of weapons. I especially commend the Illinois General Assembly for delineating between implements that are unlawful to possess and those that are unlawful to possess with unlawful intentions. More states should make this distinction. However, Florida's laws contain two elements I would like to see more state statutes include. IMHO, I think every state should have a clear statement about the legislative intent like 790.29 (4) below modifying its weapons and firearms use and possession statutes. Furthermore, I would like to see statement that clarify exemptions such as 790.001 (4) (a) and (b).

Title XLVI (CRIMES) - Chapter 790 (WEAPONS AND FIREARMS) - 790.29 (4) Nothing contained in this section shall be construed to prohibit any act of a law enforcement officer which is performed in connection with the lawful performance of his or her official duties or to prohibit the training or teaching of the use of weapons to be used for hunting, recreation, competition, self-defense or the protection of one's person or property, or other lawful use.

Title XLVI (CRIMES) - Chapter 790 (WEAPONS AND FIREARMS) - 790.001 (4)

(a) A device which is not designed, redesigned, used, or intended for use as a weapon;
(b) Any device, although originally designed as a weapon, which is redesigned so that it may be used solely as a signaling, line-throwing, safety, or similar device;
