Ernest Alfred Bowman, a retired voucher examiner with the former U.S. Public Health Hospital, died Monday of respiratory failure at Touro Infirmary. He was 80. Mr. Bowman was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of McDonogh No. 35 High School and Hampton University in Virginia. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Peter Claver Council No. 52 and the Usher Society of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Nellie M. Reed Bowman; two daughters, Cynthia E. Tate of Buffalo, N.Y., and Bobbie J. Anderson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 2015 Louisiana Ave. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
